The Episcopal Vicariate of Orthodox Parishes of Russian Tradition in Great Britain and Ireland adopts its statutes and appoints first trustees

With the authorisation and blessing of Archbishop Gabriel of Comana, Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Western Europe, a meeting was summoned by Bishop Basil of Amphipolis by a Notice dated 22 May 2007, addressed to all persons who wished to establish Statutes for the Episcopal Vicariate of Orthodox Parishes of Russian Tradition in Great Britain and Ireland. The meeting was held on Saturday 23 June 2007 at 10.00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church Hall, 48 Emperor’s Gate, London SW7 4HJ.

Eighty-one clergy and lay people from seventeen different parishes and communities attended the Meeting, and were issued with numbered voting papers at the door of the meeting room upon registering their names.

There were three independent observers present,  Mr Neil Harrison, Mrs C. Luxton, and Mrs Moira Naylor, from West London Churchlink and the Kensington Council of Churches, who had agreed to act as Tellers for the vote.

Copies of the Statutes for adoption were available at the meeting and had also been available by request in electronic or paper format for several weeks, along with details of the proposed Trustees.

After a period of discussion,  the Chairman announced that there would be a vote by secret ballot. Voting took place under the scrutiny of the Tellers, and Attendees immediately vacated the Meeting Room.

The Tellers announced that the votes were as follows:

For the first resolution (adoption of the Statutes):

80 votes in favour, 0 against, 1 abstention

For the second resolution (approval of Trustees):

75 votes in favour, 2 against, and 4 abstentions

Following the vote, the Trust Deed was  immediately dated and delivered.
